"The Work"

This term is used all the time in pop-culture psychology. It means so much and can mean so little when tossed around with no real context or experience. What this term means to me is the process of self exploration. Specifically seeking answers internally. Discovering my personal motivations, my true and often subconscious intentions, and ultimately the “why” of doing the things that I do.

Although it is definitely work, I’ve found so many opportunities for play, creative expression, and bursts of delight while doing the work. It can be very rich, fun, and satisfying. But it is still work. It takes dedication, a willingness to show up even when I don't want to and a willingness to trudge through stuff I’d rather avoid. But it is the most rewarding work of my life and I would LOVE to do the work with you!

“I have one major rule: Everybody is right. More specifically, everybody - including me - has some important pieces of truth, and all of those pieces need to be honored, cherished and included in a more gracious, spacious, and compassionate embrace."  -Ken Wilber

3 Ways to Work With Zara

Individual - Couples & Groups - Classes & Workshops

Individual Work:

Experience guidance and support as you navigate your interior.

  • Conflict Coaching- receive feedback and support in a one on one session to prepare for an upcoming conversation with someone important to you and/or process the outcome of a difficult conversation.
  • Identity Work- A “parts-work” method developed through the lens of conflict resolution, mediation, and communication theory. Learn more about identity work.
  • Significant Life Changes- major transitions with self, work, and relationships; beginnings, endings and breakups; and personal identity exploration.
  • Creative practices for self-exploration- Visual Art, Performance, Writing, Music, and Multimedia. You do not need to have any experience with the medium you want to explore or art in general, just a desire to create.

Individual Session Format: These sessions are 75 minutes on zoom or in person. The fee per session is $75. A minimum of three sessions is highly encouraged to create the space and time to move through a full cycle together. Multiple sessions scheduled at a single time will receive a discounted rate.

Group Work:

Conversations between two or more people engaging in a difficult conversation. I facilitate group work in personal and professional relationships. “Party” or “Parties” refers to the individuals or groups representing the different sides of the situation they need to discuss.

  • Mediation- Mediation is a process to allow everyone equal opportunity to speak, to ask clarifying questions, to ensure everyone has been heard, and to move forward with the goals and interests held in common. These conversations often revolve around quantifiable resources or circumstances that require cooperation between the parties. If an agreement is reached, I can create a formal written agreement that can then be notarized by all parties and, if needed, turned into the courts for a judge to issue a formal order.
  • Facilitation- While similar to mediation, facilitated conversations are less outcome oriented and more focused on creating clarity and understanding between the parties. The long term goal is to preserve the relationship(s). While this style occurs regularly in personal relationships, there is a great benefit from working through misunderstandings to preserve professional relationships as well. Facilitation is particularly useful for group conversations. Having someone present to guide the discussion, and track time and turn taking, is constructive for group dynamics.
  • Negotiating formal agreements in personal relationships- Do you need to have a difficult conversation with a friend or partner? Perhaps set a new boundary, negotiate the terms of “taking a break”, moving in together, or are making a significant adjustment in the relationship? I can help you all have a better conversation about these issues.
  • “Conscious Uncoupling”- A break up is never fun, but it doesn't have to be a disaster. I can facilitate a meaningful conversation about romantic untangling that can generate closure and even set the groundwork for a different kind of relationship moving forward.

Group Session Format: These sessions are scheduled for 2 to 3 hours at a time. It is wise to plan for additional sessions (beyond the first meeting) so we have the time for everyone to feel complete. Sessions take place on Zoom or in person. The fee is a total of $100 per hour and this charge will be split evenly among each party attending a group session.

Classes and Workshops:

Online and In-Person offerings for connection, creativity, and play.

  • Communication Methods
  • Conflict Resolution with friends, partners, family, and co-workers
  • Identity Work and Archetypes
  • Art and Craft Workshops
  • Artist Feedback Workshops (multi-disciplinary)

Class and Workshop Format: Communication Workshops will be offered on Zoom. Creative Workshops will be offered in person. Cost will depend on the nature of the workshop, and how many sessions are included.
